Positano coast ada access ramp- philadelphia pa - 2013

Addition

This work was unique for the office and hard to categorize by project type. Though it involved an addition to an existing restaurant, the project scope was limited to that of adding an ADA compliant ramp and new stair to access the second floor restaurant. Beyond the necessary code compliance issues with the design, the new work was restricted in its footprint to fit within the white steel beam structure of the existing building.

The restaurant, Positano Coast, specializes in Italian seafood cuisine. The idea for the design of the ramp and stair was to create a “new facade” for the restaurant employing materials and a color scheme evocative of the Amalfi coast. Various shades of warm blue stucco walls and translucent glass panels were used as a support structure and guard railings in the new work. These elements were then playfully composed in a wave-like pattern within the rigid frame of the existing steel envelop.
