who we are

Juliet Richardson, AIA, - Partner

Juliet Richardson has been licensed to practice architecture in the State of New Jersey since 1983. She studied architecture at Princeton University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, magna cum laude, in 1978 and her Master of Architecture degree in 1981. She also studied at the Architectural Association in London, England.  After working in the office of Michael Graves for seven years as an associate and designer, she began the office of Richardson Smith Architects with Terence Smith in 1986.

In addition to her architectural practice, she has held teaching positions at Princeton University as well as at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Texas at Austin where she taught both architectural design and the history of the city. She has been a guest lecturer and visiting critic at architectural societies and schools throughout this country, and most recently at the University of Jinan in Jinan, China. Ms. Richardson’s professional work has taken her throughout China where she is a partner in A.R.T. International Group based in Shanghai. Her work there includes master planning, development and design of mixed use and resort hotel complexes.

When she is not practicing architecture, Ms. Richardson enjoys trekking in as remote places in the world as she can find. Closer to home, her passions include choral singing and fine tuning her slice on the golf range.

Terence Smith is licensed to practice architecture in the states of Pennsylvania (1995), New York (1988) and New Jersey (1982). He began his undergraduate work in architecture at Syracuse University, and earned his undergraduate Diploma in Architecture in 1977 from the Architectural Association in London, England. He received his Master of Architecture degree from Princeton University in 1979. Following his graduation from Princeton, he worked in the firm of Michael Graves as a senior associate and project manager. In 1986 he started the office of Richardson Smith Architects with Juliet Richardson.

He has served as a lecturer at Princeton University's School of Architecture and as an Adjunct Professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where his work has concentrated on issues of building design, construction, and technology. He has donated his services to Habitat For Humanity in the Princeton area. Mr. Smith has also worked with A.R.T. International Group in Shanghai, China on recreational, office and resort projects in Qingdao, Shanghai, and Hainan Island.

Mr. Smith’s extracurricular activities revolve around his love of sport. He spent many years coaching Little League baseball and Pop Warner football. He is an avid Yankees fan (Juliet is a cradle-to-grave Red Sox). He lives and dies by the NY Giants (Juliet is a Pat’s fan). However, Juliet & Terry agree on most other things, especially that he is a much superior golfer.
